I know, I know…I’m the kettlebell nut. I hear ya, and I agree! But it didn’t start that way. My introduction to kettlebells was mired with frustration, failure, personal discovery, and a slow journey. Not until I opened myself up to external coaching did everything really click. My first KB Certification Course opened my eyes, and opinion, of this simple tool. Yes, I’ve become and enthusiast, a guru. Is that the destination for everyone? No. If athletes take a chance, spend some quality time with proper, thorough, KB instruction, they will witness exponential growth in all training abilities. Sure, we’ll be hanging onto bells for 5 weeks, but when done, we’ll move more confidently with every tool and every exercise.
In my experience, kettlebells have helped me increase athleticism, blaze calories, have fun and get faster gains! No other fitness tool has the versatility to develop strength, increase mobility, advance stability and improve endurance like kettlebells. Back story;
My journey with kettlebells started over 15 years ago in a parking lot at the Nike warehouse in Portland, OR. My friends’ cousin was in town from Brazil and pulled out this 16kg ball of metal with a handle on it. He demonstrated some of the things you could do with it and talked about how it benefitted his sport, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. We got to play around with it and I remember being amazed by how hard I had to work every muscle to do the swings, bottoms up cleans and squats. I was hooked.
Since then, I have studied and practiced 1000’s of hours of kettlebell training, taught over 2000 classes, and over 5,000 private training sessions. I am a certified StrongFirst Kettlebell Instructor and have been an assistant instructor at two StrongFirst certifications here in Denver. A couple of my favorite books are Jeff Martone’s “Kettlebell Rx” and Pavel Tsatsouline’s “Simple and Sinister”. I have taught people from the ages 8 to 80 how to swing a kettlebell both effectively and safely. It is my passion to coach clients how to improve stability, strength and power to maximize their ability to lose weight, maintain physic, or advance athletically.
